Hair gel question?

i'm a 17 yr old male. i used to have short hair and back then, i could style my hair kind of spiky, but not really.. it's hard to explain. but anyways, now i have longer hair (lower than my ear) so it's not like i can put it up with gel in any way.

my question is, i am looking for gel that seperates my hair really well because when i had short hair, the way i did it, it didnt matter so much if hairs were stuck together at places. but now i dont want that... and also , i dont want it to look wet (as less as possible) . almost like when you dont wash your hair for a while and it gets a bit oily so when you play it with your hand, it sort of stays where you left it. ( iknow its nasty ) , but im not saying i want oily hair like those black girls put it ...

oh well i think you should just put a little of gel or frizz serum and then comb it so it will seperate.
