How can I style my hair for a punky modernized mermaid look?

doing a punky modernized mermaid look for halloween, and I can't decide how to do my hair! Thought about microbraids w/ blue/green/yellow feathers %26amp; beads, but people say caucasians look really bad. I have long hair (mid/lower back) some layers, dirty blond and straight. hard to curls but do-able, what do you think? suggestions?

Caucasians look bad with mircobraids?

If this was stated by a person of another race

I hope that you kicked his/her butt!

Braids suit anyone who has the face for them.

I did that last halloween. I bought some of that eyelash yarn in shades of blues and greens that I wanted(to get a seaweed effect) and tied several very long strands of it onto hair elastics. I dyed my own hair a temporary turquoise color, I then put my hair in lots(about 12) little ponytail buns, then tied in the elastics which had the eyelash yarn on them. Some of the strands were almost down to my knees and everyone said it had a great seaweed look. Just an idea and hope you have fun.

BTW-I'm caucasian and blonde and I occasionally get the microbraids done and they look great. Not only that, it's the easiest hairstyle I ever had......just wash and go. Don't even need a comb for about 2 months.
